Role Craft Bartender & Food Handler  

Reports to Bar Captain 

Job Summary The Barnacle has a rare opening for a year-round Craft Bartender & Food Handler to join the crew. A successful candidate shares our devotion to building community, providing a warm and inviting experience to all who walk through our doors, cultivating an environment focused on local purveyors, craft culture and island hospitality. The Craft Bartender & Food Handler invents and delivers high-quality cocktails, elixirs, and food boards to our patrons. The small scale of this business requires the Craft Bartender & Food Handler to simultaneously provide both front-of-house and back-of-house services as well as responsibility for individually executing the daily opening and closing procedures. This role is the heart and soul of operations at The Barnacle. Summary of essential job functions

• Ensure compliance with the Department of Health Food Service Standards

• Ensure compliance with WA State Liquor and Cannabis Board Requirements

• Check identification to verify patron is of legal age

• Greet all patrons quickly with enthusiasm and friendliness

• Answer questions about food, beverages, and our island community

• Cultivate a friendly eclectic atmosphere that introduces patrons to unique taste profiles and local purveyors

• Develop and maintain positive relationships with patrons-both new and regulars

• Provide the highest level of service in accordance with our standards

• Strong work ethic with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment for prolonged periods of time

• Prepare and maintain stock of food and drink items for sale

• Prepare food and drink orders and deliver to patrons in a timely manner

• Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times

• Report to work as scheduled, in uniform, and ready for work

• Attention to detail, follow checklists and build upon standard operating procedures

• Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and well-stocked work area

• Strive to constantly increase knowledge of food, purveyors, ingredients, and craft cocktails

• Responsible for constant sanitation, organization, and proper food handling and storage

• Prepare work area for opening, mid-shift, or closing in accordance with schedule and company standards

• Make recommendations to management to improve operations

• Creator of craft house infusions, tonics, tinctures, and bitters

• Update and maintain records of Featured Cocktail Recipes 

• Support execution of special events

• Ensure that all patrons have a positive and memorable experience

• Other duties as assigned by management

Minimum requirements

• Serious, experienced and passionate applicants — we will ask you to prepare cocktails and discuss beer/wine with us as part of the interview process. 

• 5 years bartending and/or food service experience; with a minimum of 2 years of bartending; Craft bartending preferred. 

• Current WA MAST Alcohol Server Permit

• Current WA Food Worker Card

• A good attitude and willingness to jump in and help with all tasks
